This is a special hotel with unik atmosphere in an old residence from the church. So close up to St. Peters Cathedral, wonderful restaurant with excellent food. Best place in Rome for us.

Great historical building, 100 meters from St Peter's Square. Friendly staff, and very quiet considering the location on the main road leading to the Vatican. Very comfortable bed, and air-conditioning. No better option or location for a Vatican overnight stay.
Room furnishings are outdated, dingy carpet, obvious wear and tear. Room was indicated as non-smoking, yet had an ash-tray and complementary matches. Shower fixture sprayed in all directions, including the ceiling whose water stains indicated this was not a new problem. Room rate did not include breakfast, yet they offered to add it for an additional 15 euro at check-in. I declined and walked next door to a cafe for a 5 euro breakfast, Italian style. For the price of the room, breakfast should be included.

Feeling of history in the public rooms
The beds were hard, so were the pillows, the carpet felt unclean, the bath tub had hair in it. No place to put anything down in the bath room.

Its beauty and history. We wanted to stay close to the vatican city as my Mother is 81 and cannot walk far. We especially wanted an hotel with character and old charm and we got it. A friend recommended it to us and we were not disappointed. We knew we were in Rome not in a plastic palace.
The online info is incorrect in regards to the rooms having a patio. The hotel are aware of this mistake as they have been questioned before. No rooms have patios but there is an excellent public patio garden.

As my daughter and I were in Rome to attend a Canonisation and friends with the same interests Hotel Columbus was absolutely perfect. For what I particularly wanted, the small amount of walking had to do was easy. The Terrace garden was great to relax in with a glass or cup of something. I would certainly recommend this hotel except for one thing. . . spaghettoni.
. . . when in Rome, don't choose pasta! The fish was magnificent, the ice-cream wonderful but for pasta - go to Florence!

I liked the location, close to Vatican and out of the very busy part of Rome. Also, there were several very good restaurants close by.
I found the one easy chair in the room very uncomfortable. Also, the price of 15 euros for breakfast was a little steep. Also, although we wee told that Wifi worked in the rooms, we found the reception in the room to be very sporadic. When we wanted to use the Wifi we went downstairs to the bar area.

Great setting near Vatican/Castel S'Angelo, etc. Great hiostory to hotel..Wonderful breakfast area. Great trattorias 2 blocks away. staff was wonderful
room could be noisy if facing street and air conditioning isn't on

The Restaurant and bar facilities are fantastic; a very aesthetically pleasing hotel that is on the door step of the vatican. What more could you want?
The room we were given was very basic compared to the rest of the hotel, but we did select the cheapest type.

Rooms were large and wee could see st Peters square
Wifi was expensive

Hotel Colombus was an enjoyable place to stay. We stayed in a superior room (worth the extra money) The location isf you want to be close to teh Vatican can't be expressed. It is literally a few meters away. it was a fantastic location and alwasy easy to find your way back. (everyone knows how to get to the vatican)
I found the hotel to be dated. I loved the hotel with its rooms and frescos. But the furniture was old and dirty, there was no shower (just a shower head) and there was no WIFI. We just stayed in several hotels all over Italy and this was the only one that did not offer free WIFI. (I felt it was a little pit nickle and dime) considering we stayed at hotels for less than half the price that offered WIFI (sometimes fo rtravelers that is the only communication they have back home)

Amazing, delightful historical setting. Richly decorated restaurant and meeting rooms. Efficient room service and good, helpful reception staff.
Air conditioning system needs upgrading and improvement.

This hotel was very close to the heart of Rome! A short walk to the Vatican. The other main attractions were only a 1/2 hour walk. The staff was very helpful, they tried to accommodate every need. Although the rooms were small the hotel was grand with beautiful great rooms to sit. The restaurant menus were filled with fine food.
Internet charge for use, additional 15.00 per person per day for breakfast.

Location! Steps from St. Peters, taxi stand, hop on-hop off busses and city bus lines. 10 minute walk to metro (Octaviano). Lots of tourist friendly eating establishments in the area, Restored 15th Century building has tons of ambiance! Lots of siting room type public areas - we had 2 rooms booked for our group, and a sitting room (sofa, 2 chairs) in adjacent public area became our meeting/relaxation point. Rooms were clean, linen impeccable, bath in good order but to European standards (no shower in our room, just hand held in bath). Staff friendly and accommodating. The Veranda restaurant/bar was a pleasant surprise - lovely outdoor central patio area was open during our August stay and it became the perfect place for a night cap.
They need to replace the carpets in the rooms - old, stained, obviously cleaned many times. My only complaint - I prefer rooms with solid surface flooring (tile, laminate, not picky but something you know can be clean. Common areas are all stone/tiled so no issues there.

i like toasted bread and there were no toasters
